Gatefold Cascade Card Tutorial

This card is super fun to create and I thought it would be fun to create a video tutorial to share with you.  Below are the measurements for the card. I have created this project in metric measurements to fit a standard C6 envelope.

Gatefold cascade card tutorial

The card is the same as the one in a previous post which you can see  Here

For today's tutorial I have used patterned paper from an exclusive 2021/2022 selection of host rewarss from Stampin' Up! Called Pattern Party

So to start you will need to create the Gusseted Gatefold card base. For this you will need a piece of cardstock measuring 14.85cm x 21cm. Score along from both ends at 5.1cm and 5.5cm.

Decorate with 4 pieces of patterned paper measuring 14.4cm x 4.5cm.  I used 2 panels for the outside front of the card and the remaining 2 patterned paper pieces go on the inside of the front panels.

Now put the card base to one side and create the cascade part. You will need 2 pieces of cardstock measuring 14.85cm x 21cm.  Score each piece at 5cm, 10cm, 15cm and 20cm.

Now lightly mark at 4cm with a pencil on the bottom left  corner of the first panel. ( keep the narrow panel on the right-hand side). You need to cut diagonally from the mark upto the top right-hand corner of the 4th scoreline. ( see the video) I cut both pieces at once so they were identical.

Discard the top portion and reinforce the folds  on each piece.  Next mark the center point of the 10cm score line on each piece. On one piece snip up to the mark and on the other snip down to the mark. Watch the video to see how I did this and put it all together.

To decorate the cascade part you will need strips pattern paper 2 each of the below

 14.4cm x 4.5cm

14x 4.5cm,  mark at 11.5cm

11cm x 4.5cm, mark at 9.5cm

8.5cm x 4.5cm,  mark at 6cm

6cm x 4.5cm, mark at 3.5cm

Once the cascade is decorated and attatched to the card base all that is left is the belly band. For this you will need a piece of acrd measuring 3cm x 25cm . Score at 7cm, 7.5cm, 18cm and 18.5 cm. I  have decorated it with a strip of patterned paper measuring 2.5cm x 24.5cm.

Here is the link to the video Here

I do hope that you will have a go at this fun card.

Have fun

I have ajusted the instructions to create a card that fits in a standard C6 envelope. And used some more of the gorgeous Pattern Party   papers.

The card starts life as a gatefold card with a  belly band to hold it closed.

Throwback Thursday Party Puffins

For today's card I was inspired by one that I saw on Google.  It showed a card using a technique that I'd forgotten about... shocking I know 😲. The technique is called the masking tape technique and I thought it would be fun to do with today's Part Puffins card.

So all you need are ink pads, masking tape ( also called painters tape) and cardstock.  Open your ink pad and tear a strip of  masking tape. Then gently place the tape onto the ink pad.

Next place the tape, ink side down, onto the piece of cardstock.  Now for my card I had stamped and masked one of the puffins onto my cardstock first.

Now gently remove the tape to reveal the colour on the cardstock.

Now you can do this as may times as you like. It makes a unique background every time which is such fun.

Once I'd applied the tape 3 times over my puffin I was ready to complete my card.

Next I added a few jewels and a sentiment and I was happy with my card.

Can you see the cheeky puffin I stamped on the inside? Here's a better look at him

I hope you are too and will give this simple way to create unique fun backgrounds a go.

Watercolour Wednesday Party Puffins

When you we're a child did you like jumping in puddles? I most certainly did and when I was not such a young child ! 😉 well it was splashing in puddles that inspired today's watercolour Wednesday card. One of the puffins in the Party Puffins stamp set just lookes like he's splish splashing about so I set about making a watercolour background for then to be jumping in.

To achieve the background I took my chosen colour of ink added lots of water to it on a piece of plastic, I actually used an old cellophane bag. I then took my piece of white cardstock and dabbed it onto the ink.

Whilst the piece was drying I stamped and fussy cut out 3 puffins and a little fish.  The sentiment was stamped and die cut out and voilà my splish splash puffins card was complete on the outside....

Then it was onto the inside of my card. For this I used the negative space from the die cut for the sentiment.  I turned it into a frame and stamped and coloured the image of a cake from the stamp set just for fun 😀

I was very happy with how this fun card turned out. I love the colours and the super cute puffins. What do you think?

Tips tricks and techniques Tuesday Party Puffins

Today I'm  sharing a super simple technique for a fun card that has a hidden surprise! Of course the card features the Party Puffins but I have also used one of the pattern papers from a fantastic pack that is exclusively available with a qualifying order from Stampin' Up!. Called Pattern Party it is one that will certainly be popping up in future projects!!

Easy wow card party puffins pattern party Stampin up

The card starts with a simple piece of patterned paper and a simple image from the Party Puffins stamps. Aren't  the colours in the paper cheerful 😀?

Pattern party easy fun card party puffins Stampin up

Now the fun really begins when the card is opened....

Party Puffins easy pop up fun card stampin up

The puffins are fussy cut out and set upon my super simple pop up mechanism.  The mechanism is so easy to create. It is a simple strip of card scored into 4 . The size of the strip dictates the stand stands out into the card it's self .

For today's card I have made 2 pop up stands.  One is a strip of card 10cm x 2.5cm scored at 2.5cm, 5cm and 7.5cm to create a stand for the larger puffin. The smaller puffin is on a stand made from a strip measuring 8cm x 2cm scored at 2cm, 4cm and 6cm.

You can create you strip any length and width but once scored should like this....

Party Puffins easy pop up card stampin up

Now to affix it into your card all you have to do is reinforce the folds by folding them. Next fold the piece in half and offer it up to the fold of your card base. Make sure that the open ends are to the fold . In the picture below I have marked where to apply adhesive.

Once you've applied the ashesive to the tab carefully close the cards sandwiching it into the card then do the same on the other side see below.

Once opened you have your pop up stand!!

How easy is that??? 😀 it opens the door to lots of fun wow cards!!

All in all I had great fun making this project and hope you like it as much as I do 😁

Fun Fold Friday - Art Gallery

Hello again, for the last time this week I am completing today's card witha  fun fold. Fun Folds are exactly that. They are fun to do, make and more importantly fun to receive. This is sort of a gate fold card with another card added onto it. Sound confusing? It isn't, it's very simple and straight forward. The papers sadly, have now retired but like me I am positive that we all have papers that have retired from previous catalogues. It happens. To bring fresh new designs in, some of the existing things have to go. That's the sad part, the good part is that these are from the Art Gallery suite. The watercoloured images on the papers are brilliant. On this card, I have used 3 different pieces and also Pool Party card for the soft greenish, blue hue through out.

For more information on the stamp set or the suite, please click HERE and it will take you through to the shop where you can see all of the products. It will open up in a new page so you don't loose your place here.

If you live in the UK and don't have a new catalogue yet, please message us and we will happily send one to you.

I started off by folding the card in 3 at 4.8cm, 14.5cm the overall length is 23cm by 14.85cm. or in Imperial 1,3/4" and 5,3/4" the length is 9". The small card is 16cm by10cm and scored at 8cm. Imperial is 6,1/4" by 3,7/8". Scored at 3,1/8". As you can see the panels were measured and stamped before adding to the inside of the card.  I used Night Of Navy on White card before adding the patterned papers. Using the Floral Gallery dies, I die cut the Just want to say out of Adhesive foam sheets and covered it with gold embossing powder. Then very gently heat set the powder. As the sheets are double sided, once ready I was able to add it to the front of the small card.

As I said earlier, this is a very easy card to make and fold but even better, a great card to get from you.

Thank you so much for stopping by to see what I have made. I hope you have found some ideas to make your own cards. If you have, please share with us, as we would dearly love to see them.

That's it from me this week.

Cary will return on Monday to share her creations with you.

Until I return, take care, stay safe and keep well xxx

Throwback Thursday - Art Gallery

Today's card is one similar to one from last year. We had a die that cut out 3 rectangles and I wanted to do something similar. Using the Hippo and Friends dies again, I took 3 different sizes and cut out the frames. Then with the Art Gallery stamps, I stamped the cluster of flowers a few times in Daffodil Delight and a stronger colour in the Mango Melody. Then obviously the green for the stems in Granny Apple Green ink.

I used the coordination dies calledFloral Gallery to die cut the flower clusters out then took a little off each one until the bottom one.

I embossed the Granny Apple Green mat using the Brick and Mortar embossing folder to add some more interest.

The last set of flowers and a message or two complete the inside.

Watercolour Wednesday - Art Gallery

Hello again, I know I keep going on about the weather here but it is so up and down eveery day but today was an up day. The sun was shining and it was lovely and warm...until the thunderstorm! Thankfully, only a short hail storm. After that it's been lovely just crafting. Once again I am using the Art Gallery stamp set from Stampin' Up! and today's card I had some really good fun! Using a piece of water colour paper, I stamped the main flower in Versamark ink, then poured white embossing powder before heat setting it. Then I went mad with the colours and my waterbrush! I started with the soft shade of lilac using Fresh Freesia ink pad. I soaked the paper and generously brushed across the lilac. I didn't let it stay for long as I soaked it up using kitchen roll throughout. Then the lovely soft green of Soft Succulent ink. I only used a little of this keeping most of the green close to the edges of the flowers. Then finally, the gorgeous pink of Polished Pink ink pad. I started with a large brush and spread the colour across then added more detail within the flowers using a fine brush. I constantly dried the colour up as I went as I didn't want it to be too strong.

I wanted the paper to stand out so I matted it onto a piece of the Evening Evergreen card. The green is a really gorgeous dark alpine green and I think I succeeded in making it pop and stand out.

A strip of the gorgeous In Colour Ribbon in the Polished Pink and a bow, I think highlight the colours on the card.

A simple message for the front and inside completes this one.  What's the chance of my enjoying the rest of the sunny day? NIL! The tree surgeons turned up to attend to the trees in the meadow at the back of our garden. Fascinating watching them though!

Technique Tuesday - Art Gallery

Hello on this cold and very wet Tuesday. Well it is here. We are in England after all! Today's card is not exactly a technique but using the Stampin' Up! Art Gallery stamp set and a few dies, I have put together this card. A standard C6 card base is one that is a piece of card which has been folded in the centre but occasionally I do something different. Like lots of folds, a fold in the opposite direction and more panels etc. etc. I have been making cards today, for make and takes for our catalogue launch this weekend. While I was making one of them I came up with another idea. In addition to the stamp set, I have also used the Bricks and Mortar embossing folder, Hippo and Friends dies and the NEW amazing set called Beautiful Trees dies.

The card base is of course Basic White and the 2 colours I have used are 2 of the NEW In Colours. They are called Soft Succulent (green) and Pale Papaya ( yellow). I think they go so well together too.

The additional stamp set that I used is another NEW product called Light-hearted Lines. The Happy Birthday words are on a stamp that says 'To a person who's still got it ...But might not remember where they put it Happy Birthday'. It's a brilliant set and one that I will be using a lot in the coming months. I love humorous phrases and messages.  Hence the inside message... 'Don't grow up it's a trap' That just suits my sense of humour.

Make It Monday - Art Gallery

Hello and welcome back. After another week looking after my grandson Theo, I am very glad to say that his dad is off this week and I don't have to look after him! I love him to bits and he certainly has had me on my toes for all of last week. He is mischievious, funny, into everything and loves all of my Stampin' Up! products. If I'm making something, he has to be part of it too! So today's card is what we call a #simplestamping one. I am using the gorgeous stamp set called Art Gallery this week and although it wasn't one that jumped out at me initially, I really do love the versatility of the set now.

This card is for the novice or beginner crafter to show that they can make beautiful cards very simply using just a stamp set, an ink pad and some paper or just card stock in this case.

I used the beautiful pink in the Fresh Freesia Ink pad. This is one of the 5 new In Colours that Stampin' Up! have just introduced to the world. If you keep a look out this week, I will attempt to show you the other 4 Ink colours.

A simple decoration on the inside and a message to complete it.

If you live in the U.K. and would like a catalogue, please drop us a line and we will be very happy to send one to you.
