Fun fold Friday Peaceful Deer

Once upon a time..... so started many a story that I read a child. On such book had a tunnel effect where each page revealed another layer of the story. This was the starting point for today's fun fold card. Using just cardstock , inks and the lovely Peaceful Deer bundle to create a book tunnel card.

This fun project looks like a wow but doesn't need lots of tools just a trimmer and a score tool. I will be creating a tutorial for this project that will be shared here later as we are at #onstage@home over the next few days life is a little crazy 😜

So let's have a look at the project... it starts as a book....

Throwback Thursday Peaceful Deer

After yesterday's vintage / distressed Christmas card Post I had to get back to the clean and simple style. So for today's post I'm sharing a card that is very clean looking but does have some tips and techniques that make it special. It all starts with the super cute image of the fawn from the Peaceful Deer stamp set.

This little cutie deserves to be the star of the show so with the help of a set of dies called Stitched Stars  I set out to create my project.

Switched Stars dies Stampin up clean and simple Christmas card

I started by die cutting a star frame in white cardstock using the 2 largest star dies.

I then took the negative left over from die cutting and placed it onto a piece of white cardstock.  Next I stamped the cute fawn into the space and onto a sticky note.  I fussy cut the fawn out on the sticky note and placed it over the stamped image.

With the fawn covered and the star shape over it I took 2 coloured inks, a pale turquoise called pool party and a subtle lilac called fresh freesia,  and blending brushes. I blended the 2 colours over the opening and the masked fawn. I  then took a wink of stella and added a few delicate splashes of glimmer.

Once the star negative and fawn mask was removed I used the star  again and created a bunny mask to do a little detail for a mat for the inside of my card.

I then adhered the star frame into place. Then stamped a simple sentiment and I was done all I needed was to place it on card base.

I love this card it has a calm and elegant feel that is modern and just right for my taste.

And the simple repeating patern on the inside completed the project.

I hope you like the card as much as I do and that I've inspired you to  have a go at a clean and simple project.

Watercolour Wednesday Peaceful Deer

Now I know that I like to push the colour box especially at Christmas and today's card most assuredly pushes the box!!! It all started with a scrap of pale pink cardstock and a deer from the Peaceful Deer stamp set and it turned into something very different from my usual style!

The project started and grew in unexpected ways. Does this kind of whimsical process happen to you too?

Any way the card uses a pale peachy pink colour called petal pink  and a beautiful rose gold glimmer paper.  I used tone on tone for stamping and distressing. I also used some clear wink of stella to add even more subtle shimmer to the piece.

Distressed/  vintage ? I'm not sure if it works 🤔 but I had a great time creating it!

I created a watercolour wash on a piece of the petal pink cardstock using petal pink and a soft kraft colour inks. I then used some wink of stella mixed with water to create subtle shimmer. Once dried I used an embossing folder to add more texture to thw panel. Next I used a blending brush to add petal pink ink around the edges to give it more depth. Then I took some scissors and ran the blade around the edges to distress it even more!

I then die cut a decorative circle from the rose fold glimmer paper. On to it I placed a stamped deer in pink onto pink, wound some vanilla coloured  twine behind the circle. Then coloured some lace trim and placed that behind the embellishment.

I created a mat of rose gold glimmer paper to go behind the mat and a petal pink card base. A sentiment was stamped in kraft onto a petal pink lable die cut.

I also decided to decorate the inside of my project. I took a piece of vanilla coloured cardstock blended some petal pink to the bottom edge and the stamped a prancing deer onto kraft cardstock in kraft coloured ink. A small strip of rose gold glimmer to highlight the corner and I was done....

...Until I took my wink of stella and added a little shimmer to my deer that is!! I highlighted the deer rather than coloured it in and in real life it looks fab but sadly photos don't  do it justice 😏

So what do you think? A success?  Or a maybe not this time ?

Tips, Tricks and Techniques Tuesday

Do you have a pile of pattern paper but just not the one that you need for your project? Well I have a tip that might just help you out! For today's inspiration using the Peaceful Deer bundle. The bundle consists of the stamp set and coordinating punch and is fabulous value for money.

Peaceful deer Stampin up pattern paper tricks red black white check Christmas card

I knew I wanted to used a black, white and red colour palette. I also knew I wanted to use some check/plaid pattern paper. The only trouble was that I didn't have any pattern paper in my stash that fit my requirements.  So after some digging around I found some nice black and white check paper and set to work making it fit my idea.

For the first card I simple found a red marker pen and with the aid of a ruler I drew in some extra horizontal and vertical lines. This created just the splash of red I wanted.

Next I set about creating an embellishment for my project. I punched out a deer from some white cardstock.  I then took my versamark ink and covered it completely.  Then I covered it in white embossing powder and heated it  whilst it was still hot ai dipped it in the power again and once more heated it. I repeated this again once more. This technique creates an enamel effect that I think looks fab.

A mat of red cardstock and a simple sentiment heat embossed in white onto red cardstock finished the project.

I  had another piece of the black and white check so decided to use another tequnique to make it fit the idea I had in mind.

This time I used the snowflake mask from the Adorning designs decorative masks.  This pack of 4 15cm x 15cm masks is so versatile!

I used a lovely bright shade of red ink called real red abd a blending brush and gentle applied ink through the mask onto the check paper. I then created a black version of my enamel effect deer embellishment.  And completed my second card with the same layout.

Now I know red snowflakes aren't everyone's cup of tea but I really like the bold effect it gives my project.

I also had fun creating my own embellishments using the trip embossing technique.

So my big tip for today when you don't have the perfect paper to hand .. alter what you have to fit!

Make it simple Monday Peaceful Deer

Well the weather has certainly turned wintery here in my small part of the UK. There has been some beautiful bright days with clear blue skys and crispy crunch frosts in the mornings. I much prefer the bright cold days to the grim grots and grimy rainy ones. Do you find the weather influences your creativity?  It certainly does mine! I find it much easier to create when the light is bright 🌞.  Yesterday was one such bright days so I made not 1 card for todays #simplestamping project but 4!!! The stamps I'm using this week are called Peaceful Deer. This set sprang to mind as I'm lucky enough to live near a forest,  which has deer and other wildlife right on my doorstep.

Peaceful deer Stampin up simple stamping easy Christmas card

The first card that I created used the large tree stamp. I stamped it in a lovely deep shadw of green called shaded spruce.  I inked the stamp once then stamped it . I then stamped it a second and third time with out reinking. This is called generational stamping.  It gives you 3 shades of the colour so making great use of your inks.

I then stamped the sentiment and a few pebbles to create a simple clean card.

Peaceful deer Stampin up simple stamping easy Christmas card clean looking card

I then created 2 cards using the standing and prancing deer. I stamped them both using second generation of a shade of brown called soft suede . I then used the antler stamp inked in soft suede full strength.

I then added colour highlights onto the deers using soft suede ink and a Blender pen. Blender pens are a great tool especially for those who are starting their stamping journey. The pens are great for using with waterbased inks and watercolour pencils. I dabbed an acrylic block onto the ink pad to gather some ink. I then took the blender pen and picked up some of the ink and added colour to the deer.

The layout for the cards are all the same.  I kept the colours similar through out to give  a cohesive look to all 4 cards.

One of the differences that make the cards unique are things like the different floral collars on the deer. One has a shaded spruce collar and the other a lovely rich yellow called bumble bee.

For the fourth card in this set of #simplestamping cards I used the cute bunny stamp and the pretty snowflakes and stars. I stamped the bunny in a gentle grey called smoky slate.  I used the blender pen again to add highlights of colour to the bunny.

I used second generation pale turquoise ink called pool party for the snowflakes all around the bunny. Again I used the same mid tone blue called misty moonlight to stamp the sentiment the same as the other 3 cards.

So that's the start of my creations using the Peaceful Deer stamps.

If you'd like to see how I made these cards I shall be demoing them in a live on  our Facebook page at 4pm GMT it would be great if you could join me. If you can't make it live then why not watch by clicking here

Fun Fold Friday - Christmas

For my last card this week it just has to be a fun fold. Now I know that I can hear a lot of you saying that they are not fun! I do understand why you would say that but when you actually sit down with a piece of paper (I use printer paper to make mine initially) and play, they really are fun to see them develop. Today's card I used the Snowbody Better stamp set again. The stamp set has a really lovely, fun, large image on and all the time that I was colouring it in, I was grinning of all things!

I used half a sheet of A4 in the dark blue of Night of Navy, cut in half at 14.85cm by 21cm (that's the width of A4 card in the UK). Across the long edge, I scored at 4cm on one side and 6.5cm from the other side. In Imperial it was 1,7/8" from the left hand side and 2,1/2" from the right hand edge of the card. I then reinforced the folds using a bone folder, (a plastic tool like a butter knife which is used like you are spreading butter but instead you are forcing the fold down). I used some of the retired Champagne Foiled paper for the mats on the fronts of my card and embossed them with the leaf folder from the Wintry embossing Folder twin set. Each of the mats is either 0.5cm smaller than the basic mat or 1/4" smaller or whichever measurements you use. I love to see the borders of the lower layers beneath the front of the cards.

From here I then made another card base. This time it was in Basic White card. it is 18cm by 10cm or in Imperial it is 7" by 4" I then folded that in half at 9cm or 3,1/2".

The card was then stamped with my main image, the group of snowmen. Once completed, I added the card onto a mat of the dark blue of Night of Navy and then a mat of the Champagne Foiled card. It was then added to the left-hand front of the main card base.

I then cut a mat for the inside. I stamped a few sentiments and the birds which then completed the card.

I coloured my snowmen using my Stampin' Blends pens but you can colour with whatever colouring tools you have, I just love my Blends.

So this was my fun fold for today, I do hope that you did have fun like I did. :)

Throwback Thursday -Christmas

Today's throwback idea is one from about 3 years ago when I made the following card. Today's card although similar, has no flowers on. I have used the Snowman Season stamp set. My original card was made using the gorgeous Daisy flowers which for the life of me I cannot remember the name! Which is crazy really as I used it rather a lot! Anyway, my original card is here ...

For more information on the stamp set and products that I have used, please click HERE and follow the link to our shop where you can browse uninterrupted. You will be able to find the punch there too.

Instead of the flower this time I have stamped the snowman and punched it out using the Snowman Builder Punch. The punch is great as it not only has the snowman  but it has the nose, the arms and his Bowler hat of course. These can all be just cut out of white and then coloured in but I cheated and punched them all out of the relevant colours!

Once the snowman was built, I cut the card base. I used a piece of the traditional green of Old Olive, This was cut at 10.5cm down the whole long length of the card which in the UK is 29.7cm. I then scored this at 14.85cm. After scoring the last mark, I turned the card around and pencilled 5.25cm on both narrow sides of the card front then cut top half of the front off. I added a piece of white card and a small strip of designer series paper from the Saleabration papers called Peaceful Prints. I laid the 2 pieces of card and paper on top of the green card base and paper clipped them in position. The sides of the papers were showing a little edge of each layer at the sides only. At the centre they were all edge to edge in the centre. I laid the snowman over the 3 layers and pencilled around the snowman to where I wanted it to be then cut through all three layers with scissors. Once cut the top 2 layers had a little more trimmed off each to show more of a border. That was my choice but not essential. The mats were then all added into position on the front.

I fixed the snowman using Dimensionals and then added a few more stamped and fussy cut pictures too. Again, my choice but not essential.

That was the simple card for today. It may have been fiddly because I chose to make it that way but thoroughly enjoyed myself too. I added a few sentiments inside and out to complete this one.
