Octagonal box tutorial

This is just a quick tutorial for the box I made a few weeks ago. Sorry for the delay but life has been hectic!
So here we go. . .
You will need the following pieces for the basic box you can of course decorate as you like 😊

Base: 2 pieces of cardstock cut to 8.5" × 6"
2 pieces of cardstock cut to 4.75" ×4.75"
Lid: 2 pieces of card stock measuring 8.5" ×2.5"
2 pieces of card stock measuring 5" ×5"

1- take the 2 base pieces that measure 8.5" ×6" and score each of them at 2,4,6and 8" on the long side and 0.5" on the short side like this
2-   Snip up to the scoreline at. 5" at each of the other score lines. I always slight notch these as they are going to be folding in . See below

adhere the pieces together.
3- take the 2 squares of card that are left and mark at 1.5" and 3.25" on each side. Then cut between each point removing the corners and creating an octagon.  See below

4- apply glue to the outside edge of one of the octagons and place over the folded in ends of the sides. Then repeat with the other octagon place it inside the box creating a strong base for your box. Tip - you may have to trim the octagon that goes on the inside on one or more sides by a smidgen to ensure a good fit.

Lid
1- take the 2 pieces of card that measure 8.5" × 2.5"  and score at 2 1/16", 4 1/8, 6 3/16an" and 8  1/4" on the long side and 0.5 " on the short side. See below

2- Snip up to the scoreline at each score line and notch to aid folding as before. See below
adhere the pieces together.
3- take the 2 squares of card that measure 5" ×5" mark at 1.5 " and 3.5". Then cut between the marks effectively cutting the corners off to create the octagons  as before. See below
4 - apply glue to the outside edge of the octagons and place as for the base.
Then decorate how ever you choose I've used DSP to cover the panels and lid and used pom pom trim from the current Stampin ' Up!  Catalogue.
I hope this makes sense!  Please share your creations with us
Have fun
Cary ☺
